About the Real FNM D-11000

The FNM D-11000 — affectionately nicknamed the "FeNeMê" — reached the market in 1958 as one of Brazil's first home-built heavy trucks. Fábrica Nacional de Motores had begun making trucks in 1949 with the Italian firm Isotta Fraschini, then switched to Alfa Romeo diesel technology, and the D-11000 became its heavy-hauler flagship: a six-cylinder diesel cab-over rated for eleven tonnes that earned a "tank on wheels" reputation and worked the construction sites that raised the new capital, Brasília. Built at Xerém in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, the FeNeMê stayed in production through the following decades under Alfa Romeo and later Fiat control, until the marque faded from Brazilian roads in the mid-1970s.
