About the Real Mercedes-Benz LP-321

The Mercedes-Benz LP-321 is a landmark of Brazilian trucking. It belongs to the L-321 family that Mercedes-Benz do Brasil launched in 1958, just two years after its São Bernardo do Campo plant — the company's first outside Germany — opened its doors. The "LP" cab-over earned the affectionate nickname "cara-chata" (flat-face) for its then-advanced forward-control cab, and the LP-321 4x4 became the first four-wheel-drive truck built in Brazil. Powered by a 5.1-litre six-cylinder diesel of around 110 hp and rated for roughly seven tonnes, the LP-321 stayed in production until 1970 and helped motorize a rapidly industrializing Brazil.
