The Mercedes-Benz Atego 1726 is a semi-heavy member of the Atego range — in Mercedes-Benz's naming, a 17-tonne class truck with around 260 hp. It is built by Mercedes-Benz do Brasil at its São Bernardo do Campo plant, the largest Daimler commercial-vehicle factory outside Germany, where the Atego family has been produced since the late 1990s. Its sturdy chassis and available retarder and differential lock make the 1726 a natural base for a "guincho" (tow / wrecker) conversion like this one, used to recover broken-down cars, vans and trucks from city streets and highways.
