About the Real Mercedes-Benz 1315

The Mercedes-Benz 1315 is a classic of Brazil's short-bonnet ("cara-chata", or Kurzhauber) truck era. In Mercedes-Benz's naming, the "1315" marks a 13-tonne class truck with around 150 hp, drawn from the OM 352 inline-six — Mercedes-Benz's first direct-injection diesel. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil brought the short-bonnet range to Brazil in the 1960s and facelifted it in 1982, and these rugged, simple trucks became mainstays of the country's agriculture. Fitted here as a "caminhão da cana", it carries the tall caged tipper body used to move sugarcane from the fields to the mill during the harvest season.
